I know we've been gone for awhile - COVID seemed to have changed everything. But here's an update on our activities:
Jim has been forming a 4-piece band that rehearses out here at Klinger Studios (a.k.a Nine Pines) - our multi-acre, multi-use land that's 2 miles from the beautiful little village of Yellow Springs. Although Vinyl Tap is comprised of seasoned musicians who have played in various bands over the years - they just played their first "official," very informal gig together last week - here in Yellow Springs - at our neighbors' annual musical event/corn roast. It was a great community event and a lot of fun. They plan to play out soon; we'll keep you posted!
Vinyl Tap is a 4-piece, Yellow Springs-based band that plays an eclectic mix of classis rock, soul, blues and jazz from many eras - '60s -'90s - and beyond! In homage to (and tapping into) some of the greatest musical eras ever - they call themselves - VINYL TAP. You may see and hear them out and about in the Yellow Springs and Dayton areas in the near future.
To reach them for booking - please contact Jim Klinger at 937-479-0539 or klingerjames4@gmail.com. You can check back here from time to time for event updates. And, I suppose they'll be on facebook too at some point.

Here's the first of 3 paintings I had in a recent, national online exhibit run by an old friend/mentor of mine - Bob Burridge of California. The show was called "Table Settings." This painting is an 18" x 24" oil on canvas titled "Matisse Homage."

This one and the next are slight reworks of 2 little 8" x 10" oils on canvas I made awhile back. The one above is titled "My Salmon" and the one below is "My Filet." All these are currently available. Email me if you're interested. Thanks.

It's been awhile since I've posted here but I'm back, for now anyway. I hope everyone out there is doing well and staying healthy. Here are the 3 pieces I have in the recent "Yellow Springs Arts Council's Annual Members Show." It's still up, on the web site (see Links We Like) through March 31 - possibly longer. Due to upcoming cancelled or postponed exhibits the members' show may end up sticking around awhile. The theme of the show was "Isolation" - expressions of what we saw, felt, did, dreamed about, etc. - surrounding the COVID-19 virus. Due to the pandemic - the exhibit is all on line and we had a zoom reception. Very strange but it all went as well as we could expect, I guess. I'm looking forward to seeing humans again.
If you're interested in a purchase - email me. Contact info. is in my profile area (you need to hover over the email link to see it). Here is more information about the paintings: 1. Chaos Garden, acrylic, 12" x 9", $110, 2. Reality - TV, acrylic, 10" x 8", $80, and 3. Sea Dream, acrylic, 5" x 7", $40. I have a new show of paintings up at 5th/3rd Center Gallery in downtown Dayton. It's titled "Abstracts - Old and New." You'll see some (not all) of my newer work alongside some (not all) of my older work - with very affordable prices on the latter, on all, really. I love them but I am painting so much that I need to make room in my studio!

Here are some details on the show:

ABSTRACTS - OLD AND NEW
by Christine Klinger
July 1 - August 30, 2019
Artists' Reception is First Friday, August 2, 5 PM - 7 PM
5th/3rd Center Gallery
1 S. Main St. Dayton, OH, 45402
(Please note: there's a lot going on downtown on First Fridays. And 5th/3rd wants folks to know they can park in their parking garage - accessible from Ludlow).
www.klingerart.com
P.S. I just heard back from 5th/3rd - they say parking is free for the reception - and any time you come to see the art show. Just take your ticket to the security desk on the first floor, tell them why you're there, and the guard will validate it. Also, I meant to mention - my work is on both the first and second floors.

Also showing are cool, 3-D, felt sculptures of Kettering artist Rachael Redolfi. Her show is titled:
"Fibers & Filaments: Needle Felting and 3D Print Artwork
from Rachel A. Redolfi"
The Centerville Arts Commission is pleased to announce the November Art Gallery exhibit will feature “Water Abstracts and Sculpture by Christine Klinger” at the Centerville Police Department, 155 W. Spring Valley Road in Centerville. The exhibit runs from 11/2 through 11/30/18 and may be viewed anytime, day or night. The Centerville Arts Commission will host an artist’s reception 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, November 9 in the gallery to introduce the collection to the community. Light refreshments will be served.

Klinger is a sculptor, painter and photographer. She says the exhibit will show her fascination with water and “how powerful and beautiful it is, how we treat it, take it for granted, and how dependent we are on it – in all its various bodies and forms.”

The former coordinator of Rosewood Gallery in Kettering, Klinger lives in Yellow Springs, where she is a member of the Village Artisans Cooperative Gallery. A painter since 2006, she received an Artist in Residency in painting and photography from the State of South Carolina in 2011. She has written and photographed for publications and exhibited in Ohio, South Carolina and California. Klinger has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Antioch College and a master’s degree in Photojournalism from Ohio University. For more information, please visit www.klingerart.com.
Centerville Arts Commission was created by Centerville City Council to involve the citizens of the Centerville area in the visual and performing arts. For more information, call 937- 433-7151 or visit www.centervilleohio.gov.
I miss my beautiful Himalayan cat Lucy, who left us last year after 14 1/2 years of happy, healthy life. So besides painting, photography, sculpture and teaching, I do the occasional pet care job - your place or mine. (I also house sit and care for plants, mail, etc.) More information will probably show up here at some point, but you are also free to contact me about it by visiting one of my other blogs - one that's exclusively about animals - animal art, animal information, animal care, and a little bit on plants as well. So stop in and say hello sometime at The Animal Attraction blog. I'll put a link to it on the right.
P.S. On the near right is a little 8" x 6" oil portrait I painted of Lucy. I titled it her full (Cat Fancier) name: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. (She's the only pure-bred cat I've ever had - they are usually strays who find me).Klinger Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06447416162731707583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6155353403931136586.post-44135927408763442092017-10-27T09:39:00.000-07:002017-10-27T09:39:33.842-07:00Held Over by Popular Demand!
Well, not really. But due to some Village Artisans schedule shifting - my show gets to stay up a bit longer than planned. It's now up through Monday, Nov. 6 (I'll be there taking it down early afternoon on Tues. 11/7). So if you didn't get a chance to see it sooner - you can now see it later!Klinger Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06447416162731707583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6155353403931136586.post-19571578433116607582017-09-30T11:10:00.002-07:002017-09-30T11:10:57.442-07:00One Goes Up - Other Comes Down

Also, my current show at the Meadowlark Restaurant in Dayton is up for another week - I take it down next Sunday after their brunch! The show was a bit of a challenge to install (to say the least) but I think it looks great (ahem) on those gorgeous walls. It's been up for a month now and I had a really nice sale the other day. Maybe I'll get lucky and have a few more. Stop by sometime if you get a chance - just walk around, dine if you like (great food), and let me know what you think. Several friends have done that already and it's really nice to get the feedback!

Pam Dillon wrote a nice article about my show that was in the Sunday, 7/9/17, Dayton Daily News. Thanks Pam!
Original Post:
I've been painting up a storm and enjoying it immensely. It's been a great learning experience - and escape. The image above is of a 28" x 28" mixed media painting titled "Under Sea 1."
I'll be showing it and more of my recent work - abstract and otherwise - at the Meadowlark Restaurant (at 5531 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH 45429) from July 11 - October 8, 2017. The show is titled (what else?): "Approaching Abstractions 2 - New Paintings by Christine Klinger." Many of these were at my recent show at the Yellow Springs Brewery - but many were not alive yet. I may or may not have a reception; if I do it will be very informal and I'll tell you about it later. In any case - I hope you can catch the show!Klinger Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06447416162731707583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6155353403931136586.post-2694549079064854572017-03-05T13:37:00.001-08:002017-03-05T13:42:27.757-08:00Upcoming Show at Yellow Springs Brewery - April 2017

Learn the basics of working in acrylic paint in this fun and helpful 3-session course at Yellow Springs Public Library. Subjects covered include the theme, composition and light quality of your paintings, as well as tools and materials, basic color theory, and the flexibility and nature of acrylics. Depending on interest, we can paint simple still lifes and landscapes. All materials you need will be provided, but feel free to bring in a few simple items to make your own personal still life and photographs or magazines or books showing simple landscapes you would like to paint. All levels are welcome.

Christine is a Yellow Springs resident, an active visual artist, and a current member of the Village Artisans Cooperative in Yellow Springs. She has taught art at Rosewood Arts Centre in Kettering, Riverbend Art Center, the Dayton Art Institute, and colleges in Ohio and California. She currently works in both oils and acrylics. I recently delivered a big commissioned painting - see left - to the huge, brand new Dayton Children's Hospital south of Dayton. The painting(s) are 5 - 30" x 30" panels that line up together and I titled it "When Fish Fly." Many other artists from Greene, Montgomery and surrounding counties were selected for the commissions and I was honored to be amongst them. There will be a few media and public receptions for dedication of the gorgeous building and its new artwork. I'm thinking/hoping this will all be publicized soon. It was a fun challenge!Klinger Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06447416162731707583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6155353403931136586.post-33036161655700198872016-08-22T14:15:00.000-07:002016-08-22T14:16:38.036-07:00YS OPEN STUDIOS - COME ON DOWN!The Yellow Springs Arts Council is hosting its first OPEN STUDIOS, featuring various area artists, on Sat., 10/15 & Sun., 10/16, 2016. I'm pleased to report that I have been selected to join Village Artisans cooperative in Yellow Springs, in the 100 Corry St. building. I am joining as a mixed media artist, as I will show and sell photography, paintings and sculptures. I even have mixed styles of paintings: above and to the left are examples of my more abstract and impressionistic styles of paintings. I am happy and proud to join this great group of artists. If you're in the area - stop into the gallery for a visit and/or click on the link to our site on the right! I was told that my large painting (2' x 4') titled "Poppies in Summer" has sold. It's currently hanging off the lobby of Grandview Medical Center in Dayton as part of their 90th anniversary "heART month celebration." My 3 paintings will remain up (2 are available) until the end of the closing reception, community open house and health fair, which is this coming Sunday, 2/28/16, 1 - 4 pm. It's free and open to the public, and it looks like a good time!Klinger Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06447416162731707583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6155353403931136586.post-32390524413297409692016-01-27T15:53:00.000-08:002016-02-21T17:53:07.708-08:00"It's Still Life" runs through 3/13/16; Workshop 3/6, 2-5 pm
My 22" x 28" oil, entitled "Matisse Homage" (above) won an honorable mention award at the YSAC still life show opening reception last night. It will remain up, along with "Sunflower Bouquet," below, until the show ends on 3/13. It IS a fun show. Hope you can catch it!

P.S. The Dayton Daily News and the Dayton City Paper did stories on the show.

P.P.S. I'm doing a workshop on capturing the simple still life. It will be held Sun., 3/6, 2-5 pm at the AC. I'll bring some possible subjects and materials, and participants may bring their own too. We'll play around and see what happens. For more info. go to the YSAC site. I know I haven't posted in awhile - but that doesn't mean I'm not working (or playing). Here's one of my newest. It's a 24" x 18" oil on canvas I call "Sunflower Bouquet." And there's lots more where that came from; check out our site, if inclined: www.klingerart.com. Something's cooking out here at Klinger Studios. Thanks for your patience to date and lots more is needed. We had to put things on hold for awhile, but life is getting back to normal (whatever that is).

And so far, informally, we've hosted a jewelry workshop, a sculpture class, a creative writing group, and musical jams - and more activities are in the works. There is much work to be done in preparation for any kind of official opening but we promise to keep you posted on our future plans, dreams and activities out here.

Above is a photo I made awhile back of the lane leading to (or actually from) Klinger Studios. Stay tuned!
